Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool that allows veterinarians to see inside your pet’s body without the use of radiation. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound uses sound waves to create detailed images of internal organs in real time. The procedure is completely pain-free, and most pets remain awake and comfortable throughout. Especially useful in senior pet care, ultrasound can reveal important insights that traditional radiography may miss.
This imaging technique helps identify or investigate conditions like:
  • Foreign body ingestion or obstructions
  • Abdominal masses, such as cysts or tumors
  • Intestinal disorders
  • Cancer
  • Pregnancy
  • Heart conditions

X-Ray

We offer advanced Digital Radiology—the modern, high-clarity evolution of traditional X-rays. This state-of-the-art technology enables us to quickly and accurately assess your pet’s bones, joints, organs, teeth, and even soft tissues. With up to 80% less radiation exposure than conventional film X-rays, digital radiology is safer and more efficient. Whether it’s part of a routine exam or an urgent care visit, digital imaging helps us make fast, informed decisions to support your pet’s health.

Compared to traditional X-rays, digital radiology offers several key advantages:

  • Produces highly detailed, accurate images for better diagnostics
  • Minimizes the need for retakes, reducing stress on your pet
  • Digital files can be easily stored, shared, and transferred between veterinarians
  • Environmentally friendly—eliminates the need for film and harmful processing chemicals

In-House Laboratory

At Newport Veterinary Hospital, we’re committed to delivering accurate, timely, and advanced diagnostic services. To support this, our Rock Hill clinic features a fully equipped in-house laboratory for routine testing. When your pet is unwell, a fast diagnosis can make all the difference—many tests can be processed and interpreted in as little as 15 minutes, allowing us to begin treatment without delay.

Our in-house lab services include:

  • A Complete Blood Count (CBC) is one of the most frequently performed blood tests in veterinary medicine. It provides valuable insights into your pet’s overall health by measuring the levels and types of cells in the bloodstream. This information can help diagnose a variety of conditions, including anemia, infections, inflammation, and other underlying health issues.
  • Blood chemistry profiles are another essential group of tests that provide a detailed look at the chemical components of your pet’s blood, including liver and kidney function. These tests help us detect and monitor conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, and other metabolic disorders.
  • Electrolyte testing measures essential minerals like potassium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, and phosphorus in your pet’s blood. These vital salts play a crucial role in organ function and help us identify issues such as dehydration and metabolic imbalances.
  • Urinalysis evaluates the health and function of the urinary tract and kidneys. It is a routine test for older cats, who are more prone to kidney disorders. Additionally, urinalysis plays an important role in diagnosing and monitoring diabetes.
